[The FAME - Flag and Arms of the Modern Era]

The FAME is a site devoted to the systematic and scientific study of flags and coats of arms. Such symbols often bear strong political and other messages. Inclusion of those symbols here does not mean that the author supports or approves of the ideas they may stand for.

The coat of arms of Preddvor is per fess argent a bar azure in chief two keys sable in saltire and in base an alpine chough volant sable and chequy azure and argent 4×3. The alpine chough (Pyrrhocorax graculus, in Slovenian planinska kavka) is a bird of the crow family living in the peaks of high mountains. The keys are attributes of St. Peter, the patron of the local parish. The flag is simply a triband of white-blue-white.

The coat of arms of Preddvor adopted in 1995 is quartered: I. Azure a Fess Argent, II. Argent a Lion rampant Gules, III. Argent a Bend counter-compony Gules and Argent, IV. Chequy Azure and Argent. It is sad that this is based on the family arms of Eck-Brdski and the coat of arms of the monastery of Vetrinje. The flag is diagonal bicolour of white and blue, with the coat of arms in the white field. After almost decade of the use of this symbols they were replaced by the new ones in 2004.

Design: Borut Bončina, architect

The coat of arms is azure three crowns or palewise and between the chief two a barrulet wavy argent. These symbolize a local legend of three warden's daugthers who drowned in the lake that once stood where the city is today. The flag is blue with the crown stylization near the hoist. The unusual ratio of the flag is the consequence of the requirement that the diagonal is making an angle equal to one quarter of the right angle. The community also uses an emblem consisting of a stripe of the blue and golden triangles as on the flag.

The coat of arms of Ptuj is Argent a Cross Gules. It originates from the seals of 1273 picturing St. George, but its current simplified form obtains in 1576. The flag is white with the coat of arms in the middle. Also is used somewhat more fancy flag for ornamental purposes with coat of arms set in the lower end of a white flag that is wider then long, bordered with red and with square tails.

The community of Radeče uses the historical coat of arms of the town of Radeče: Azure five dices Argent dotted Sable, 4-1-5-2-3. This coat of arms appeared around 1900 on the community documents, but its origins were lost in a fire in the Ministry of Interior archives in Vienna in 1927.
It may be noted that Valvasor's collection (17th century) gives an other coat of arms for Radeče, Gules three lozenges Argent in bend.
The flags is vertical white flag with the coat of arms offset to the top.

The blue shapes in the coat of arms picture the mineral water sources after which are Radenci known, while the green one represents the hills. The white disks represent the bubbles of the mineral water and a bunch of grapes. On the green hill there is a white church. The flag is yellow-green, based on the colours from the coat of arms.

The version of the coat of arms and the flag adopted in 1991 are basically the same as today, differing only in minor details. The coat of arms is without the inscription (as used on the licence plates) and the flag is with simpler stripes.

The coat of arms of the community is the coat of arms of the city of Radovljica, based on civic seal of 1514. The colours are taken from the book of arms made by Valvasor of 1687/88. The shield is of early 16th century, late renaissance shape. Argent, on base Vert standing a Man wearing Jacket and Stockings Gules, Trousers Azure, Shoes Sable, holding in dexter a Wheel Or and in sinister a stylized city of the same. The flag, adopted a year latter, is red-white bicolour with the coat of arms in the middle.
The coat of arms is canting: the German name of Radovljica was Radmandorf or Radmanstadt (wheel-man-town).

The Community of Ravne na Koroškem adopted in 1989 for her coat of arms the old coat of arms of the city of Ravne (when it was called Guštanj/Guttenstein, recorded in XVIth century), though in a modern artistic rendition Azure a Tree Vert trunked proper issuant from three Mounts of the second, the shield is bordered green, and the lines are made brown. Also, the flag was adopted to be bicolour based on the coat of arms, blue-green with coat of arms in the middle. When in 1995 the new, decreased, community was renamed to Ravne-Prevalje, the symbols were retained, as well as when in 1998 the community of Prevalje was excluded, and the old name was restored, now for territorially much smaller community.
In 2001 the vertical variation of the flag was prescribed as well.

Ravne-Prevalje 1995 – 1998

The community continued to use the same symbols as explained above.
