The FAME is a site devoted to the systematic and scientific study of flags and coats of arms. Such symbols often bear strong political and other messages. Inclusion of those symbols here does not mean that the author supports or approves of the ideas they may stand for. |

The coat of arms of Kočevje was granted by Emperor Frederic III on 19 April 1471. The original grant burned up in 1596, and a new one was issued by Emperor Ferdinand III. on 27 June 1642, with the same arms, today preserved in the local museum. It pictures in a blue shield the town at the time it received the civic rights with a white fortification and the town's patron St. Jerome (Jernej) holding a book and a knife behind the wicked fence. The medieval name of the town was Gottschee. The flag adopted in 1999 sets the coat of arms in the middle of a blue and white triband.

The coat of arms of Kostanjevica is based on a design made for Kostanjevica by Jože Plečnik (1872-1957), one of the most influential Slovenian architects and designers. It depicts in a seal form on red background white elemets - the three towered city over the waves between the years 1252 and 2006, the former when the town gained its rights and the latter when the modern community was established. This is encircled with a cloverleaf ornament into which is inscribed name of the community. The inscription is made in the Makalonca font, based on Plečnik's script, designed by Lucijan Bratuš, academic painter, caligrapher and typorgapoher. The circular seal is outlined with black border. The red and white are used being the colours of the ducal
family of Spenheim, who established the region of the current community and shaped its history.
The flag of the community is white with the coat of arms in the middle. The ratio of width to length is prescribed either 1:2 or 1:3 and for the vertical hoisting the coat of arms is properly rotated, so gaining four versions of the flag.
The Community of Kostanjevica na Krki was separated from the community of Krško in 2006.

Kostel adopted the coat of arms based on the historical seals dating back to 14th century. The coloured version of the seal is first found in 17th century Valvasor's armorial, now in National Library in Zagreb, showing a white tower on a green mound in a red field. The coat of arms is canting the name of the town derived from Latin Castellum. The German name of the town was Grafenwarth. The flag is adopted first in 1999, white-red-white tribar with the coat of arms overall in two official ratios. The vertical version include four square indentation along the bottom edge.

The coat of arms of Kranj is based on the coat of arms of the city seal of 1530, and adopted in this design in 1990. Soon afterwards a simple bicolour of white over Bordeaux red was officially introduced as the city flag, following the tradition, rather then the more complex design adopted initially in 1990.

According to the 1991 decisions the shield is coloured by Pantone scale with cobalt-grey-black 428 c (named so this seems to be a very light grey shade), while the displayed eagle and border is Pantone cinnabar-red 179 c. However, the coat of arms is often printed with light blue background, which is, nevertheless, erroneous. Otherwise, based on the good heraldic tradition, the coat of arms is printed also with the silver metallic background with Pantone 877u. The flag adopted initially in 1990 is of the same cobalt-grey-black field with the coat of arms in the middle. This flag was officially prescribed for less then a year when it was replaced with the simple bicolour and possibly that it was never introduced into use.

The coat of arms adopted in 1979 is in the discontinuance with the ancient heraldic tradition in accordance to the taste of the art of the time. It is a white shield with a blue fimbriated red carnation that in its centre includes also a blue bordered five-pointed red star and in the chief it is inscribed KRANJ in blue. The colours of the coat of arms are the same as the Slovenian national tricolour, while the carnation is both the Slovenian national flower as well as the symbol of socialist revolution. No community flag was adopted nor used to go with this coat of arms.
